The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) at its meeting of 15th February 2007 at Owerri, Imo State approved the “Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Rules (MCLE Rules)” pursuant to Rule 11 of the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners 2007.

The MCLE in conjunction with or inline with ICLE program is a welcomed development but recent occurrence in undertaking the courses especially the free ones is disheartening, you will register to attend a course only for you to log in and in the same instance you will see a prompt that meeting has reached the maximum capacity by the host. You attend some at the end of the day you won't get the certificate either you were logged out by network or other circumstances. To me and in my humble opinion the process is not seamless as it appears to be, unless something drastic and revolutionary is to be done about it. Some of us are disenfranchised from this exercise,…

This is a welcome development. However , NBA as much as possible should make the fee affordable especially for young lawyers with less than 5 years post call experience.
This is a welcome initiative that will enhance competence that will usher in a paradigm shift for Nigerian lawyers .
Can one have access to scholarships or sponsorship, either full or partial, to attend the courses? Please if yes, how can one go about it?
